Best practices for SAP GUI 730 options?

$
0
0

I'm responsible for rolling out SAP GUI 730 to my global organization, replacing our current SAP GUI 720 desktop installation package.  Since there are now more options for administrators to configure SAP GUI using the Windows registry (thanks SAP!) I wanted to ask what other organizations are doing before we finalize our choices.  Here are the options we're planning to implement:

- Grant ability for SAP GUI to read/write/delete files on the local client by default

SAP’s default setting is to ask the user whenever an action that passes SAP GUI’s security rules will access the client machine’s file system (this
is the authorization pop-up you get when you try to download a file from SAP to your desktop)

I think our risk of SAP GUI performing rogue activity on client machines is very low, plus few of our users would be able to classify activity as
harmful by interpreting the information in the pop-up.  This setting is suggested as a convenience to our user community, most members of whom will probably allow any activity anyway.

- Delete the cache of documents downloaded from SAP each time SAP Logon is shut down

Other options are to prevent caching of downloaded files altogether or to delete them after a specific number of days

I believe deletion when SAP Logon is closed as a compromise between convenience and security since users access many more documents from
DMS that aren’t sensitive

Any document written to the hard drive could potentially be recovered even after erasure by someone using data recovery tools until the
hard drive sectors are physically overwritten.  Turning document caching off completely might reduce that risk, although additional research would be required to confirm that documents are never written to the hard drive if not cached.

- Allow SAP GUI trace files to remain on the client indefinitely

This is the SAP standard setting

While trace files could potentially contain sensitive input data, the likelihood is low.  The alternative is to prevent caching or delete the trace file
cache after a defined number of days

Prevent Firefighter passwords from being saved in the local SAP input history database

SAP currently stores all user input, except SAP login passwords, in an unencrypted local database.  Apparently Firefighter passwords aren’t recognized as SAP passwords.  This is from SAP Note 1250351

I personally find the input history helpful when using SAP GUI for business transactions so I don’t suggest deactivating it altogether.  Any other commonly-used sensitive data elements that should be considered; SSNs or credit card numbers?

- Allow SAP GUI scripting

This is the SAP standard setting

My organization currently disables SAP GUI scripting at the server level out of a concern that a technically-savy user who writes a bad script could really do some (likely inadvertent) damage to our production systems.  Maintaining control at the server level makes it easier to adjust on an as-needed basis

- Prevent end users from changing selected SAP GUI options set by the administrator

The only features to be made unchangeable by users are:

  • SAP GUI security rules
  • Retention of the document cache (we want to be sure it is always
deleted when the user leaves SAP Logon)
  • Branding image location (so users can’t replace the Perrigo logo
in the upper right corner of the screen with their own image)

Thanks everyone for your input, and I hope the suggestions I've shared above are helpful to others.

Hi all,

We create an installation server for massive update for SAPGUI's and distribution for new SAPLOGON.ini, we have created packcges for the installation and everything is fine locally but whe we try to make a remote instllation to a workstation we recieve the error:

Executing E:\SAPGUI\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Silent /Package="SAPGUI_EU" on Cliente, please wait...

Failure in executing E:\SAPGUI\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Silent /Package="SAPGUI_EU" on Cliente. Check parameters, credentials and verify if the Windows workstation is running!

If i run the command locally the installation and copy for the saplogon.ini it's fine but when i tried to do this for a remote workstation the error appears. Also i tried to enter from the workstation to the \\installation_server\shared\setup\NwSAPSetup.exe and execute the package from here and works fine.

Anyone can help us to this remote?

Thanks in advanced

How to manage hidden screen elements in Personas?

$

I'm working on simplifying some complicated SAPgui transactions and find I'm hiding a lot of screen elements. My current project is the Create PO transaction, ME21N. That has several ScrollableContainer elements that hold the header, line and item details, for example. For what I'm trying to achieve, I've found it best to move the elements I want out of these containers and hide the container. That does clutter things up when trying to lay out the remaining fields so I've developed a habit of moving the hidden objects off to the far right out of the way. That works really well until I decide I need one of the elements I've hidden and I need to go and find it again!

Are there are tips for making this process easier, beyond "remember where you put stuff"? I guess I should be more structured and careful about where I move the hidden elements, but I wonder if there are any tricks for finding hidden objects?

Thanks,

Steve.

Sap Screen personas in NWBC

Hi,

I've started experiementing with SAP Screen Personas and want to use it in NWBC for customer purposes.

I followed the guide in the video on how to implement screen personas in NWBC.  I found a few problems however.

First of all, the page is rendered differently as a BSP page compared to the browser page. So if i edit a page in the browser it looks very different in NWBC.

This is NWBC

10-07-2013 07-52-13.png

And here is in the browser

10-07-2013 07-52-25.png

Another thing is when i close the tab in NWBC, the whole program crashes and i can't use it anymore. I think it has something to do with the silverlight plugin that isn't shut down correctly. Is it possible to fix this?

2 problems after installation and configuration of SAP Personas

Hello,

we have installed and configurated SAP Personas and facing two issues, that we can't resolve.

The first:

When starting the GUI in the browser, we get the message, that there is no configured system for the use of Personas. (SPRO is done for the main and only system).

The second:

In the ADMIN_UI - transaction we can't add flavors - the button is missing. In the other sections, we can add groups, media etc. We have two users with Persos Admin Role (SU01) and full edit access in the system.

Edit:

Ok, we got it. We put the latest Kernel Level and the SP1 for Personas into the system and implemented several notes. Finally the restgui-service needed a fix again and there it is.

SAPGUI Java Mac SE80 Lookup and Display Buttons Don't Work

$

I downloaded and installed the SAP NW ABAP Trial 7.03. Along with that, I installed SAPGUI Java for Mac 7.30 rev 1.

In SE80, it looks like the two buttons to the right of the input field don't fully resolve and do not work when you click on them.

I attempted to download a higher revision, but my certification S-user account doesn't allow me to download much, just trial downloads and paired SAPGUI offerings.

Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way to be able to download the latest revision somewhere? I miss the ftp.

Thanks

Chris

Accessing properties of UI at runtime in SAP PERSONA

$

Hello All,

I am new to SAP Persona, I trying to customise the XK03 screen, I am looking out the solution for is there any way in which I can control the property of the custom control drawn on the screen.

Basically I have added some group elements onto the screen, now I want initially that group box in invisible and when I run m script then only it becomes Visible, so it there a way out to achieve this functionality, can we actually control the properties of elements at run time?

Thanks

Pooja

Possible to Release ActiveX Library with Free Object

Hello community,

I developed an ABAP program, which installs and registers an ActiveX library temporary on the presentation server. After the using I want to delete it from the presentation server. But it is not possible, because the SAP Logon locks the ActiveX library. Itis possible after theSAP Logonhas beenstopped and restarted. Is there a way to unlock the ActiveX library from the SAP Logon on runtime?

Thanks for tips.

Anyone having problems with HTML controls in Personas?

$
0
0

Some standard ERP transactions use an HTML control as part of their layout, and I'm talking about those rather than an HTML control added afterwards in Personas. The example I particularly care about is notes added to business objects (purchase orders, invoices, etc.) using object services - the text of the notes is displayed using an HTML control. A simpler example though is transaction SM50:

screenshot.png

The information displayed above the work process list is in an HTML control. As you can see, in webgui this works fine. When I look at the same transaction, in the same system, using Personas I get this:

screenshot.png

Notice that the HTML control is blank. Also notice that this is a Basic View, and not a customised view.

The only configuration I can think of that might affect this is the HTML control whitelist, which determines URLs which are safe to load into an HTML control. The URL for the content of this particular control is a "sapr3:..." URL, and I would hope those are always allowed and shouldn't need to be added to the whitelist. Nevertheless, I have a line in my whitelist containing a "*", which should allow anything.

Is there something I'm missing? It would be interesting to know if anybody else has this problem, or even if other people don't have it! It would be especially interesting if anyone has a solution .

Major problems installing GUI v7.30

$

Hi folks,

Has anyone else had any issues installing version 7.30 of the SAP GUI?

It just will not install for me.  I have a little over 300 PCs to upgrade, mainly from v7.20 to v7.30 with a small number from v7.10 to v7.30.

I have tried every single different scenario I can think of:

1) Out of the box PCs

2) Installing 7.30 over 7.10

3) Installing 7.30 over 7.20

4) Removing 7.10 before installing 7.30

5) Removing 7.20 before installing 7.30

6) Remote installations

7) Manual "at the PC" installations

8) Installing logged in as a Domain Admin

9) Running the .exe as Domain Admin but logged in as the power user

10) Uninstalling previous version and removing all traces of SAP before installing 7.30 (registry/directories)

11) Switching off Anti-Virus before installing

12) Attempted installations on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP.

13) Attempted installations on both 32 bit and 64 Windows Operating Systems.

The end result has now been the same on 22 out of 24 attempts.  The installation finishes with 231 errors (always 231) and when I try run the software I get the following message:

"The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I have raised this issue with SAP, followed a long list of instructions whilst some debugging software is running to collect data.  I've sent the log files to them to which they reply and tell me that the log file states the software was installed correctly.  Which is WRONG!!

And besides, even if it did, it's unacceptable to have to perform these actions (taking over an hour) to install the latest GUI over 300 times!!

Since then, SAP have gone quiet.  I don't want to try anymore until I fix this.

The 2 out of the 24 that worked were identical to 6 of the PCs that failed (both in hardware and software, even down to Windows Updates!).  There seems to be no pattern.

Has anyone out there experienced issues installing 7.30?

GUI Linux 7.3 Rev. 3

Hello,

after installing the new SAP client for Linux 7.3 Rev. 3, some information output on the client window shows the following error:

"No pilot configured for 'application/x-mozilla-bookmarks'"

For example the transaction DB13: Clicking on the button to showing the action protocol, the system creates a  temp file on the "/tmp/root/SAPGUI/tmp", after that  firefox opens and shows that file which contain the message:

/tmp/root/SAPGUI/tmp/HTML000001.htm could not be found.

In the upper Window of the SAP Client there is the message: "No pilot configured für 'application/x-mozilla-bookmarks'"

Normally there should be the following text:

BRCONNECT Aktionsprotkoll für Datenbank L01

Vom:   17.07.2013 12:10:31

Logfile:   celqvyzf.chk

Return code:   0001 Erfolg mit Warnungen

Datenbankrechner:   kons

This happens with some other transactions too.

Formerly I had 7.1 installed with no such behavior.

Also the ABAP-Help does not work:

A new Window will be opened and on the left side the tree view is created. But as soon an key word of the tree view is marked, then on the right side of the window there is only the text '"No pilot configured for 'application/x-mozilla-bookmarks'"

This is being run on the machine in the System context, and again, it works fine on 32 bit systems, just not on 64 bit systems.  All of the machines are running either Java 6, or Java 7.  I've checked the deployment guide and done some googling, and I'm not finding anything.  Has anyone else seen this behavior?

How do you deal with variable screen flow in a Personas script?

$
0
0

There are many occasions where the screen flow through a transaction varies for a number of reasons. One situation that seems like it might affect Personas scripts quite often is where a transaction asks for extra information the first time you run it after login, but remembers that subsequently, at least until you logout and back in. My particular example today is transaction ME2J - Purchasing Documents per Project. The first time you run this is asks for a database profile, and subsequently does not.

How, in a Personas script, can you detect this extra pop-up and fill in the necessary information when asked for, but carry on anyway if the pop-up doesn't appear? I don't immediately see a way to detect the presence or absence of this pop-up.
